THE W.L.S Environment

The People, Environment and Care

At Waiuku Learning Space, we foster the learning and development of our mokopuna through play-based learning. Here, children engage in exploration, experimentation, discovery, and problem-solving through imaginative and playful activities. Beyond mere amusement, play at Waiuku Learning Space instils a genuine love for learning, ensuring that our mokopuna derive enjoyment from the learning process throughout their lives.

Our Philosophy

“He tangata, he tangata, he tangata”.

It’s about the people, people, people

Our philosophy revolves around establishing strong relationships that instill a lifelong passion for learning. Our talented and experienced Kaiako plan and set up  a diverse range of learning experiences each day to captivate the minds of our young learners, empowering and encouraging them to grow and flourish.

Our beautiful and creative environments help to maximize learning opportunities. Our resources are hand-picked to engage, support and motivate our little people to be creative thinkers.

Holistic approach

We believe in nurturing the whole child – mind, body, and spirit. Our curriculum is designed to promote not only academic excellence but also the development of essential life skills and character traits.

Passionate teachers

Our team of experienced and caring educators is here to guide, inspire, and support your child at every step of the way. We are committed to creating a positive and engaging learning experience tailored to each child's unique needs.

Safe and Supportive Environment

Your child's safety and well-being are our top priorities. We maintain a secure and welcoming space where every child feels valued, respected, and cared for.

01

Anuhe Room (Nursery)

Our learning space is thoughtfully arranged, offering a welcoming environment for mokopuna to investigate, featuring soft furnishings that impart a contemporary and homelike ambiance.

The design of our room is purposefully crafted to facilitate the developmental needs of infants and toddlers at various ages and stages, presenting interconnected opportunities for both independent exploration and collaborative activities.

02

Purerehuwa Room (Preschool)

The room is thoughtfully arranged, presenting beautiful and intentionally designed areas of interest that spark imaginations and curiosity.

We acknowledge and celebrate the cultural diversity of our mokopuna by recognising special events and engaging in learning about customs and culture through various expressions such as arts, cooking, waiata (singing), kapa haka (dance), and more.

To foster collaboration and understanding, we hold formal and informal whānau-teacher hui (meetings) to review, reflect, and plan for the next steps and to extend on their learning.

03

Playground

Our playground offers myriad opportunities for exploration and enjoyment, featuring unique elements such as our huge gardening area.

It’s a wondrous space where our mokopuna are actively engaged in making new friends and engaging in learning experiences every day.

04

Transition to Kura

We place a huge emphasis on supporting our mokopuna to transition to kura. Our creative Kaiako carefully plan programmes that fulfil the early childhood curriculum.

We aim to ensure our mokopuna are competent, confident and successful learners when they start their learning journey in kura.

Our Kaiako provide learning extensions that prepare our mokopuna for kura which include numeracy & numbers, literacy & language, nature & science, computers & technology, puzzles & games, creative arts, sand & water play, trips, language development, child friendships… and more!
